Biography

D.T.L. ContrAversy (aka Mike Legg) was introduced to the world of Electronic Dance Music back in '94 when he heard the amazing sounds of DJ Icey and DJ Dan. These two all time greats were his first inspiration to become a DJ, but he never actually pursued his musical talents until much later. In '97 he became active in the DC and Baltimore, MD scenes. He watched, listened, and learned as time went by, which continued to fuel his need to get involved even more. With each passing day his love and passion for Breaks and DnB grew stronger and was becoming an important and necessary element of life.

In 2004, Mike worked under Lonnie Fisher, owner of the infamous club named Sonar. Lonnie was also known to throw the biggest raves on the east coast since 1994, like Starscape, and Ultraworld parties. Mike Legg was a major promoter for the Saturday night weekly drum and bass party called Deuce, at Lonnie's club. He had become a huge asset to Sonar promotions because he was bringing in masses of people from all areas far and wide. During the nights he was not at Sonar, he was busy promoting in other clubs in the Washington D.C. and Baltimore area. His involvement as a promoter deeply rooted him with the people in the EDM culture.

After some traumatic events that occurred in Mike Legg's life in November of 2004, he was taken away from the EDM scene for a short period of time. He used this period in his life to re-evaluate his productivity and involvement with his only true passion in life (electronic music). For a while, he was consumed with dancing and promoting and completely happy with where he was but that just wasn't enough! He wanted to do more, which finally drove him to begin his dj career.

Mike's skills only continued to increase as he let his love for music drive him back to his turntables day in and day out. He is a self proclaimed "break beat junky", that lives and breathes music 24/7, stating "It's the only thing today that helps me express who I am". His strong love for breaks soon developed into a need to take his skills to the highest level of mixing and complexities. This is where Drum and Bass started to take him to that next step.

This newly found passion for two different sub genres of EDM music was not enough for him. He had to find more complex ways of expressing himself by working along side some of the best breaks and drum and bass DJ in Northern Virginia, which later brought together the group of DJs known as Va's Finest DnB and Breaks, which he managed and promoted. This took a great deal of his time leaving him with less focus on his DJ career. Together, this group of well defined DJs played many underground venues such as Some-R-Bandits, Transit, Strangeland, and tons of small raves/house parties.

Today Mike Legg is solely focused on keeping the underground vibe and music of Drum and Bass, and Breaks alive by "keeping it real and not selling out to the large group of untrue commercialized people that rob the true greatness and feeling of what this music is all about." Spinning Drum and Bass for 5 years has truly defined his skills as a DJ and has offered him the opportunity to play more major venues on the east coast. There is a strong "ContrAversial" concept brewing, second by second, that this man may change the way people view this music.

"VA’s Finest is a collective of individuals that span across the east coast, coming together as a whole to represent the Underground EDM Community. The scene has become more commercialized in today's time so we're trying to bring back the ......underground vibes we once knew. We're not trying to take over the underground. We are just trying to bring the Unity back together between everyone. Who makes VA's Finest, you ask? We're a collaboration of Dj's, promoters, dancers, & anyone else who is willing to represent what we stand for. Everyone plays a role when it comes to throwing a good party. No matter what you do, we're all in this for the same reason. The music! We're also trying to expand this underground rave movement as much as possible. As of now, there are only a few individuals involved in VA's Finest. They include: Mike Legg " D.T.L ContrAversY" - Founder/DnB & Dubstep Dj, Sarah Scene - Promoter, Will Gordon - Promoter, Cara Wegimont – Promoter, & Bryant "RX" McGaughy - Electro/Fidget Dj, Nikki Rothrock “NIX” – Promoter/ Dubstep Dj, Chris Pickren – Promoter/ DnB & Dubstep & Hip Hop Dj . So if you have a Ride Or Die attitude and you would like to help us make a difference, then please contact D.T.L ContrAversY and/or Sarah Scene. Help keep it alive!"
